254. Your Habits Aren’t Rules
Sep 11, 2026Have the habits that were supposed to help you lose weight started feeling like another diet?
Wait for hunger.
Stop at enough.
Drink your water.
Move your body.
Plan ahead.
These are all useful tools—but when “I want to” turns into “I HAVE to,” every habit can start feeling like another test you're either passing or failing.
In this episode of Concierge Weight Loss, we're continuing our BER-month series by looking at the difference between following a habit like a rule and understanding the intention behind it.
Because the habit isn't the goal.
Waiting for hunger is helping you learn your body's signals. Stopping at enough helps you learn what different amounts of food feel like. Planning helps you support yourself before you're tired or hungry. Movement helps you care for a body you want to be strong and capable.
And when you understand WHY you're practicing a habit, you can begin adapting it to different circumstances instead of either following it perfectly or abandoning it completely.
In this episode:
- How helpful habits accidentally become diet rules
- Why doing the habit isn't the same as succeeding
- The difference between following the rule and understanding its intention
- Why “I'll let myself off the hook” is really a self-trust problem
- What hunger, enough, planning, water and movement are actually helping you learn
- Why you may need to make a habit smaller while you're learning
- How to move from “I have to” toward “this is how I take care of myself”
This week's practice:
Choose ONE habit you're working on and ask:
Have I turned this into a rule?
Then:
What is the intention behind this habit?
And finally:
What would this habit look like if I did it from self-care instead of pressure?
Your habits aren't tests you have to pass.
They're skills you're practicing—and eventually, they can simply become ways you know how to take care of yourself.
