[00:00:00] Welcome to the coaching Kara podcast. I am Kara Hackleman. I'm a certified life and weight loss coach. I help people just like you lose weight for the last time. Primarily people are a little people pleasing, a little procrastinating. And maybe a little perfectionistic. I can help you overcome those so that you can finish losing weight and get out of your own way.
Join me each week to get a little motivation and a lot of inspiration. We have focused all month in the membership on the finish weight loss program. This week, we are in the fourth module, self sabotage. Each of the lessons in this module could be an entire course of their own. Special events, holidays, weekends.
Restriction, deprivation, perfectionism, and relationships. These are all the areas that we originally thought are what we believed prevented us from losing weight. The course was originally called [00:01:00] sabotage, then sabotaging thoughts. I changed it to self sabotage because we are the only ones who can sabotage.
We typically are never force fed and every one of these lessons is a circumstance that when we learn how to manage our thoughts and desires around eating, we can overcome the overeating. The first lesson prepares us for eating at special events, holidays, and weekends. As you discover what makes the event special, you realize the food plays a small part in that, if at all, you can have your goal and eat the dessert too.
We go over planning for when you don't know what will be offered, or where you will be going, planning for an intention instead of a specific food. The next lesson brings us back to what we visited last week in the ThoughtWork module. Restriction and deprivation versus decision and reduction. The [00:02:00] thought that we are telling ourselves is going to result in the feeling that is created.
Thinking that you cannot have something is It is unfair and that the only way to lose weight is to remove all your favorite foods will create the feelings of restriction and deprivation. Those usually do not feel motivating and many times result in quitting any further attempts at weight loss. The pressure of those feelings is so uncomfortable and while you may still want to lose weight, you want to escape that discomfort even more.
While the thought, I am deciding to eat only when I am hungry, and I am not physically hungry right now, feels different. It is a decision that you made, and even if you don't like it, you are left feeling in control, and desire the weight loss more. You can reduce food and remain empowered. It is all in how you speak about it.
You can feel like a victim or [00:03:00] you can decide that you are capable of making a decision for the big picture, not just for this moment of desire. The perfectionism lesson is one that I wish I had when I was starting out. I have shared that I did not feel worthy or valuable. I did not think that I was enough or doing enough.
This all played into the perfectionism I've mentioned about learning to be comfortable with mistakes and how it changed my life. This lesson covers all of that instilling in you that you are not a failure. You did not fail unless you quit. The final lesson of this module is over relationships. Most of my clients at some point have had a relationship that disappointed or they were upset about.
When the previous habit was to eat, when emotional, or at least stop progressing in the planned weight loss, we definitely find this lesson valuable in finishing our [00:04:00] weight loss. There are always friends, family, or co workers. Learning to manage our thoughts and expectations will allow us to understand and sometimes accept acceptance in the relationship.
Taking responsibility for yourself or allowing the others the space to do the same definitely takes practice on both sides as you learn how the drama lessens and the urge to eat diminishes. The finished weight loss course is set up for members to visit and revisit as you have areas that you want to master or in life as your needs change.
Revisiting the finished course will allow you to be empowered to stay with the journey. As I said before, you do not fail unless you quit. There is simply success or learning that can lead to success.[00:05:00]
