[00:00:00] Welcome to the coaching Kara podcast. I am Kara Hackleman. I'm a certified life and weight loss coach. I help people just like you lose weight for the last time. Primarily people are a little people pleasing, a little procrastinating. and maybe a little perfectionistic. I can help you overcome those so that you can finish losing weight and get out of your own way.
Join me each week to get a little motivation and a lot of inspiration. This week comes from the third module in the Finish Weight Loss program and is all about thought work. What sets this program apart from any other diet is the thought work. This is the tool we use to overcome all obstacles and all the sabotaging we do in our own weight loss.
I teach a process called think, feel, do as a way to work through to create understanding and awareness in our thoughts. I use this as I plan my weight loss and when I make mistakes to learn [00:01:00] from them. The lessons on feelings is very powerful. As you become good at being uncomfortable, you are willing to feel anything.
That willingness will allow you to try things in your weight loss that will break you through the emotional eating. As you continue the thought and feeling work, you are able to manage your mind, removing unnecessary drama. I share about how in my weight loss journey, I had to deal with my feelings of insecurity and doubt.
I had thought I wasn't able to figure this out and had an entire past to prove it. I started watching others and saw they had figured it out. So I knew it was possible for some people. Then I worked on the belief that it might be possible for me. I broke down the idea of it being good enough. Of me being good enough.
My efforts being good enough. I got really comfortable with making mistakes. Then I was willing to try lots of things in weight loss and not worry [00:02:00] about doing them wrong, or that it meant anything was wrong with me. This was life changing, not just in weight loss, but in all areas of my life and relationships.
The last lesson in this module is all about urges and overeats. I save it for last because as you work through understanding your feelings and thought work, it makes this so much easier. An urge, simply put, is a desire. You desire to eat something. Sometimes the urgency has been stronger than your willpower and then you eat it.
You had a plan and now you ate when you maybe were not hungry or when it was just something that you didn't put on your plan. The plan is there to make things easier for you and this definitely doesn't feel easier battling these urges and cravings. I laugh because in the managing our thoughts and feelings we discover that feeling of a desire comes from a simple [00:03:00] thought.
The simple thought is, I want it. I hear all the time of how it was out of your control. Like some physical thing happens and once you want something, you have to eat it. Totally out of your control. I teach in this course how normal it is and we'll always want these foods. But as you manage the emotions and the overdesire of the foods, you can put habits in place that prevent mindless eating.
You are in control of all of it.
