[00:00:00] Welcome to the coaching Kara podcast. I am Kara Hackleman. I'm a certified life and weight loss coach. I help people just like you lose weight for the last time. Primarily people are a little people pleasing, a little procrastinating. And maybe a little perfectionistic. I can help you overcome those so that you can finish losing weight and get out of your own way.
Join me each week to get a little motivation and a lot of inspiration. This week, we are in module two of the finish weight loss course. This module we learned about gratitude and finding it in our environment and in others. That will help us be open to finding it in ourselves. Then we dive into self care, where we talk about the importance of planning for ourselves and discuss our worthiness.
This was one of my biggest obstacles, allowing time for myself and feeling worthy of it. Next is self love where we dive into really [00:01:00] feeling the love at every size. We talk about affirmations like I am statements and mirror work feeding our focus. Then the last two lessons are past and future self, where we dive into understanding where our beliefs come from.
Sometimes there is some peace to be made, or at least understanding in the past, so that we can dream and grow into our future self. As I built this program, I knew this module needed to be at the beginning because my clients are not used to putting themselves first routinely. As women, we are taught that we put others first.
above us and that it is luxurious or even selfish to take any focus or time for ourselves. I have grown to learn and accept that that just sounds like pretty ideas, but it isn't true. When you are not only meeting your own needs, but filling yourself up first, you have so much more to give to [00:02:00] others.
Because when you run out, there is nothing left to give. I hear clients time and again talk about how they cannot sound proud because that is prideful. It isn't pretty. In fact, they think it is ugly and rude. Let's clear this up. You are not prideful in a boasting way when you acknowledge and appreciate yourself.
The negative side of pride is when you are putting others down to lift yourself up. Most everyone I have worked with isn't even allowing themselves to be equal to others. So there is little to no chance of them putting others below them. I hear them compare themselves to everyone. Everyone else is better than them and they have an entire list of reasons.
I teach self care and self love to let you know that your worth is not to be grown or lost. The sooner you accept your worth just exists. It will change your entire [00:03:00] perception of yourself and others. You may have talents or maybe someone else does. You may find that you don't have some too. Your talents and attributes do not make you more valuable.
Our society has taught us we have to earn it through our beauty and achievements. You cannot earn more valuable. You can grow your talents, but that has nothing to do with your worth. The same with others. You may even not appreciate some personalities. or some people that they are still valuable and simply do not prefer them.
See how that takes so much of the drama out of it. They are still valuable, but yet you simply just don't prefer them. Some of my favorite coaching sessions have come from when clients are going through the self love and the past future self lessons. As you learn to seek understanding and simple awareness, [00:04:00] instead of looking for proof of your enoughness, it can make you question what you thought you knew.
As clients look at their past for understanding of where and when some of their weight loss issues first began, it is normal to throw blame and criticism. Coaching through events simply for understanding and from an adult eye, it is now available for you to see another side to the story. Clients who truly believed their mothers didn't approve of them, their size, have told me many times that maybe their mom was only trying to protect them in the only way she knew how.
Or that it was a belief that had carried down from even her mother's mother and she simply didn't know any other way. Many times clients can find forgiveness in the understanding. One client I remember couldn't think of her future and dreams for it. She had shut that down. Her biggest dream, as she thought about her future self, was sitting on the [00:05:00] couch with her spouse, watching movies, and eating gas station snacks.
She didn't have the ability then to desire anything bigger. Nothing was wrong with her dream of a movie night, but as she began unlocking some of the areas that were sabotaging her weight loss, she also started dreaming bigger than she ever could have imagined. Her life currently looks completely different from the gas station snacks and movie night dream.
She is amazed at where she is now and has the ability to even think of what she could try next.
