A lot of women tell me,
I don't even know if I'm hungry anymore.
Or they'll say, I eat when I'm hungry,
But then, I feel guilty, I question it.
If that's you, this episode is not here to tell you to just listen to your body. I feel like I've said that a billion times to just listen to your body, but
It's here because that information feels so confusing. So…
Most of us were taught to ignore hunger.
Push through. Wait. Be good.
So by the time we eat, we're starving!
Food feels urgent, and stopping feels impossible.
That's not lack of control.
That's biology. Plus,
Social conditioning.
When I first started paying attention to hunger, I realized something surprising.
I wasn't ignoring hunger.
I was missing it.
It was there, it was just quiet.
So, I coached a woman who kept overeating at night and couldn't understand why.
As we talked, she had a realization.
She was eating foods she thought she should eat to lose weight.
All day long. But she didn't actually like them.
She never felt satisfied.
Uh, it wasn't things that she enjoyed. So after eating the diet foods…
It left her feeling deprived.
And then, at nighttime,
She would reward herself for eating all those diet foods all day long, with the foods that she actually
actually wanted. So then she was overeating.
It's not a hunger problem. It's actually a permission problem.
A lot of women have never been allowed.
to want what they want.
Especially around food.
Every diet has told them what not to have, or to eat this if you really want to succeed.
Hunger doesn't start.
as an emergency. It starts as a whisper.
And if you've spent years overriding it,
Of course you don't trust it.
That makes sense. So next time you eat, ask, when did hunger show up today?
No fixing it, no rules.
Just notice it. That's it.
